Sharmila
Biswas was intiated in Dance by Kalabati Devi in
Calcutta. She received her early training in Odissi
dance from Shri Muralidhar Majhi and Guru Kelucharan
Mohapatra at the Padatik Dance centre, Calcutta. From
Shrimati Kalanidi Narayan, she learned Abhinaya. She
also attended the American Dance Festival Workshop in
USA.
Sharmila
Biswas has researched in the Orissan Percussion
Tradition of Mrudanga for Application in Odissi
dance. Through her organisation Odissi Vision and
Movement Centre, Calcutta she has been engaged in
teaching and experimenting to enrich the dance and
create new choreographc works. With special guidance
from last two devadasis of Jagannath Temple,
Shashimani and Parashmoni, she has studies the
Devadasi tradition of Puri.
Sharmila
Biswas has performed widely in India specially in
Konark Festival.
