Madhavi Mudgal
            was brought up in an atmosphere of dance from a very
            early age. When Harekrishna Behera joined the
            Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya to teach Odissi, she took
            lessons from him and then studied intensively with
            Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, and continue to learn new
            numbers from the maestro. She has inbibed the style
            of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and projects the
            dignified the image of the nayikas with
            subtle nuances while underplaying the emotions. Her
            recitals are noted for their tasteful presentation
            and melodious music. Her sound training in Odissi
            helps her to bring to the fore the
            technicalvirtuosity imbuing her repertoire with
            beauty. 
            She has also
            choreographed several dance numbers such Sohamasmi
            giving evidence of her creative talents. She has been
            awarded the Padmashree by the Government of India.
